A grand Gair Mahotsav was held on 8 March 2026 at the Karnavati Agriculture Market Yard on the Vatva-Bijhol Ring Road in Ahmedabad, with thousands of people taking part.
A joint effort
The event was organised jointly by the Rajasthani Friends Youth Club and the Karnavati Agriculture Market Yard Association.
Seven days of Gair
By Rajasthani tradition, Gair is performed at different venues over seven days around Holi, and this mahotsav was part of that run.
What the youth clubs do
Ahmedabad has many active clubs formed by Rajasthani young people, which take part in organising festivals, sports competitions and service work. These clubs give migrant youth a shared platform and become a means of carrying traditions to the next generation.
The need for large grounds
Gair events with thousands of participants need large open grounds, which is why venues such as market yards are considered well suited to them.
Traders’ bodies join in
The involvement of traders’ bodies such as the Market Yard Association in cultural events is worth noting. It gives an event both a venue and financial backing, and strengthens the trading community’s ties with society.
