The Agarwal Seva Samiti held a grand Holi Mahotsav at Kankaria Picnic House in Ahmedabad, and its main attraction was the play “Hare Ke Sahare Baba Shyam Hamare”, staged in the city for the first time.
A Play Based on Khatu Shyam
The play drew on inspiring episodes from the life of Bhagwan Khatu Shyam and was performed by a well-known theatre company from Mumbai.
The Shape of the Evening
The evening began with a welcome and refreshments, the play was staged from 6:30 to 8:45 pm, and a Sneh Bhoj followed at the close.
Storytelling Through Theatre
Presenting religious stories as theatre is an effective tradition, and Ramlila and Raslila are its best-known examples. Watching a story performed as a play leaves a far deeper impression, particularly on children and young people.
Active Samitis
Organisations such as the Agarwal Seva Samiti work in Ahmedabad in education and health alongside the festivals they run.
Preparing the Staging
Inviting an outside theatre company means arranging staging, lighting, sound and costumes on a large scale. Bringing a play to a city for the first time is regarded as a significant achievement for the organising body.
