The Dudavat family hosted a grand musical Shri Sundarkand Path in the Thaltej area of Ahmedabad to mark the birthday of their son, Granth Raj. Devotees, relatives, members of the samaj and dignitaries attended in large numbers.
Puja and havan open the evening
The programme began with a formal puja and havan. Artists from Shri Maruti Nandan Sundarkand Mandal then performed the musical Sundarkand Path, and chants in praise of Shri Ram and Hanuman rang out across the venue throughout.
A birthday turned into an evening of devotion
What began as an ordinary birthday became a deeply devotional community gathering. Those present wished young Granth Raj a bright future and prayed that Hanuman continue to bless the family.
Sundarkand on birthdays — a growing tradition
Among Rajasthani families settled in Ahmedabad, the practice of marking birthdays, anniversaries and other personal milestones with a Sundarkand Path is spreading fast. The thinking behind it is that a happy occasion should not stop at celebration but be tied to devotion and community, so that the whole neighbourhood and samaj can share in the joy.
The Rajasthani community in Thaltej
Thaltej is one of the parts of Ahmedabad where many families of Rajasthani origin have settled over the past two decades. Drawn here by business and work, these families brought their cultural traditions with them and have kept them alive. Events such as Sundarkand have become the readiest way for them to stay connected to their roots.
